Participants: This course is designed for developers who currently use other programming languages, such as COBOL, or Java. |
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Create valid web pages with HTML and XHTML. - Style web pages with CSS. - Validate web pages with JavaScript. - Combine JavaScript with XHTML to create Dynamic Web Pages (DHTML). - Build well-formed and valid XML documents. - Turn HXML documents into web pages with XSLT. |
Overview: This five-day course introduces students to a mixture of technologies important to the development of application for the World Wide Web (www). It covers HTML, XHTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, and XSLT. This course conveys information through an even mix of lecture and hands-on exercises. |
Prerequisites: Prior experience with a programming language - COBOL, Java, etc. A strong understanding of HTML programming and web page design is required. |
Format: Lecture and hands-on workshops. |
Software Used: Microsoft Windows, TextPad and Syntax Files, Web Browsers (IE and others, such as Netscape or Mozilla Firefox), Apache Tomcat, XMLSpy (or equivalent), Tidy, and Eclipse (optional). |
Topic Outline:
- HTML, XHTML, and CSS Learn to develop web pages using HTML, XHTML, and CSS and describe the W3C organization’s XHTML and CSS standards - JavaScript and DHTML Learn to combine JavaScript with XHTML and CSS to create Dynamic Web Pages (DHTML), and also to write JavaScript that validates web data, and understand why this can be a security risk. - XML and XSLT Learn to code well-formed and valid XML documents, and convert them to XHTML using XSLT. |
