Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Create more powerful and efficient shell programs by using Korn shell features that are not found in the Bourne shell. |
Overview: This course introduces the command line and programming features of Korn Shell that are not present in the Bourne Shell. |
Prerequisites: Experience with Bourne shell programming. |
Format: Lecture and discussion (50%) with command line and programming exercises (50%). |

- Introduction to the Korn Shell - Job Control - Command History, Editing, and Re-execution - Aliases - New cd Capabilities - Tilde Expansion - Pathname Completion and Expansion - Options (Such as ignoreeof, noglob, nounset.) - Arrays - Variable Attributes (Such as integer.) - Variable Substrings - The let Command, and Integer Arithmetic - The Print Command and I/O Tools - Functions - PS3 and Menus |
