TSO/ISPF (Also known as PDF)
| Duration: 3 to 5 days |
| Participants: Operations, operations support, programmers, applications development personnel, and all others who need to use TSO/ISPF panels provided by IBM. |
|
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
- Begin and end a TSO/ISPF PDF session, also known as an ISPF PDF session. - Create, edit, view, browse, copy, delete, rename, and print datasets and members. - Compress PDS datasets. - Customize your ISPF PDF screens and use various shortcuts to make efficient use of ISPF/PDF. - Use HELP to resolve error messages and to access the on-line tutorial. The following optional topics may also be presented and you will be able to:

Overview:
- This course is designed to teach the interactive panels and menus found in TSO/ISPF. Because to a system programmer ISPF has a different meaning, the title of this course is TSO/ISPF PDF. To most programmers, operations support and other users, the title is just TSO/ISPF, as they are generally unfamiliar with the other meaning of ISPF (it is a programming language for panels.) TSO = Time Sharing Option. ISPF = Interactive System Productivity Facility. PDF = Product Development Facility. - Workshops teach programmers many helpful tips and shortcuts such as: cutting and pasting text from one program to another; changing source code indentation; converting to uppercase; finding pertinent debugging strings; etc. - Optionally, this course can include overviews on JCL, REXX, and CLISTs, which users of TSO/ISPF often encounter as they often need to edit these types of members, and then submit or execute them. - For programmers, additional presentations and labs are included for editing packed-decimal (computational-3) and fixed-point binary (computational) data. Optionally, for programmers, there are additional lessons on compiling and submitting JCL jobs, and viewing the output. |
| Prerequisites: Knowledge of data processing concepts is required, as well as a basic understanding of MVS. If students do not have a basic understanding of MVS and z/OS concepts, then these topics will be added to this TSO/ISPF course, extending the length by a day. |
| Format: Lecture and hands-on computer workshops. |
